Abstract
The generation of cellular diversity in the mammalian nervous system requires that multipotential precursor cells become restricted to their final cell fate and undergo appropriate differentiation. This developmental process is a function of position, environment, and intrinsic factors. In the peripheral nervous system neural precursor cell populations have been identified and characterized, permitting the experimental investigation of these developmental parameters.
