Abstract
A new translation of Franz Liszt's Dramaturgische Blätter, consisting of 13 essays on operas or plays (with incidental music). The essays were published in conjunction with performances at the Weimar Court Theater during the 1854 season, with Liszt conducting. These essays, much more than introductions to the works at hand, represent Liszt's ideas on the integration of word and music, on the historical development of opera, and the state of music in mid-19th century Germany.
