Abstract
This chapter presents the pedagogical concepts and tools for developing public engagement projects for college courses on environmental policy, politics, and justice. Students may engage with relevant local communities and public institutions, on or off campus. This chapter is meant to aid instructors and students to draw on the knowledge and understandings gained in the classroom and apply them to broader public settings, especially the immediate surroundings of college campuses. The pedagogical goal of this assignment is to help students to reflect critically about how different types of climate actions might work in the broader context of profound social, economic, and political inequalities. The challenge of engaging with the members of the public should prompt students to grapple with the complexities and nuances of climate justice. A critical pedagogy grounded in an ethic of care is central to students taking the lead in designing and executing public engagement projects.
