Abstract
In this chapter we explain how to teach content analysis by outlining a typology of the method, which includes supervised and unsupervised analysis at varying levels of technical skill. In the process we discuss tradeoffs of different methods in terms of nuance and scale, and we reference popular approaches and packages available to students. We also take the reader though the necessary steps in choosing the appropriate type of content analysis for a given project, and outline some pitfalls to avoid.
