Abstract
The intestine has become a prominent subject of research and clinical interest, as the impact of abnormal absorption has become appreciated in terms of immune function, protein synthesis, inflammation, and normal intestinal physiology. [...]a view of vitamin D metabolism and its role in the gut is followed by discussions of disorders of the intestine, such as the blind-loop syndrome, bacterial contamination, and dysfunction of intestinal immunity, an interesting and somewhat unique element of the immune barrier system.
