Moving the Maasai: A colonial misadventure

African Affairs, Vol.107(427), pp.294-296

Abstract

Colonialism Nonfiction Treaties
Perhaps the British did not tell the Purko to 'Go to the south and may malaria/ECF kill you there!' as many of her informants insisted (p. 115); nonetheless, the move and resulting loss of access to prime dry season and drought grazing grounds and permanent water supplies produced many livestock (and perhaps human) deaths, land degradation, and anger.
