Abstract
The Schusterman Center for Israel Studies participated in the Brandeis-Jindal Workshop on Israel Studies at Jindal School of International Affairs, O.P. Jindal Global University, in the national capital region of Delhi, December 9-10, 2013.
Brandeis President Frederick Lawrence, Professor Ilan Troen, Director of the Schusterman Center, and Professors Gannit Ankori, Yehudah Mirsky, and the Schusterman Center's Associate Director, Dr. Rachel Fish, traveled to India to present papers and engage Jindal scholars in discussion about Israel.
The collaboration between Jindal University and Brandeis University and the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies builds upon the relationship that the Center holds with Jindal University faculty member Dr. Rohee Dasgupta, a 2012 Summer Institute for Israel Studies Fellow. Dasgupta and her colleague Professor Robert P. Barnidge, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor, Jindal Global Law School - and also a 2012 Summer Institute for Israel Studies Fellow - co-organized and presented at the workshop.
Schusterman Center faculty members presented on a variety of topics during the conference. Professor Troen opened the conference with his keynote address on the state of the field of Israel Studies. He later presented "Israel-Palestine Conflict: Past and Future and the Role of Religion and Culture." Professor Mirsky spoke about “Religion, Politics and Nationalism: The Uneasy Marriage of Heaven and Earth." Dr. Fish presented "Visions for the State of Israel: From Zionist to Post-Zionist." Professor Ankori presented the second keynote address on Israeli Art and Politics.
