Abstract
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of ebooks purchased by libraries has increased. Most of the contracts libraries hold with publishers restrict the lending of whole ebooks via ILL, but some libraries have come to agreements with select publishers to lend these materials. How do we, as borrowers, know from whom to request? How do we, as librarians, know who is friendly to permissive contracts when ours come up for renewal?
Currently, individual lists are the only way to keep track of who can lend ebooks from which publishers or platforms, and those lists can only be as accurate as a practitioner’s network. Brandeis University has started a document to keep track of this information communally, but it will only work if we take on the task as a community. This session described how you can both benefit from the document and help create it.
