Abstract
There\r are\r four\r variables\r that\r are\r generally\r included\r in\r study\r of\r sibling\r relationships:\r birth\r order,\r sibship\r size,\r gender\r difference\r and\r age\r space.\r Prior\r study\r has\r focused\r on\r the\r effect\r of\r birth\r order\r but\r places\r less\r emphasis\r on\r sibship\r size.\r The\r present\r research\r proposes\r three\r studies.\r Firstly,\r I\r propose\r to\r use\r the\r General\r Linear\r Model\r to\r investigate\r how\r sibling\r size\r affects\r childhood\r sibling\r relationships.\r Secondly,\r I\r propose\r to\r use\r a\r regression\r model\r to\r investigate\r how\r childhood\r sibling\r relationships\r affect\r social\r interaction\r in\r adulthood.\r Finally,\r I\r use\r the\r Sobel\r Test\r to\r find\r the\r relationship\r between\r sibship\r size\r and\r social\r interaction\r in\r adulthood\r mediated\r through\r the\r effect\r of\r sibling\r relationships.\r Five\r hundred\r Boston-‐ area\r college\r students\r are\r collected\r to\r participate\r in\r the\r study\r by\r completing\r a\r set\r of\r questionnaires.\r I\r expect\r a\r larger\r sibship\r size\r will\r negatively\r impact\r a\r iv\r child’s\r sibling\r relationship,\r which\r in\r turn\r negatively\r affects\r his\r or\r her\r social\r interaction\r in\r adulthood.\r This\r research\r promises\r to\r add\r to\r the\r larger\r discussion\r of\r childhood\r influences\r on\r individual\r outcome\r in\r adulthood\r by\r emphasizing\r the\r significant\r role\r of\r sibship\r size\r on\r a\r child’s\r development.
