Abstract
Cognition is the result of complex information-processing systems that have been designed by evolution over millions of years. On the one hand, the fact that it has taken this long for a form of cognition to develop its own artificial information-processing system is somewhat surprising. On the other hand, what’s even more astonishing is how quickly this artificial intelligence is evolving. In less than a hundred years since the conception of the original Perceptron, artificial intelligence is now recognizing faces and driving automobiles. However, as this brain-based technology has grown ever closer toward our wildest expectations, neuroscientists have seemed to exit the pursuit, leaving a void to be aptly filled by extremely talented mathematicians. As this technology continues to expand and excite, perhaps the growth rate could, once more, enjoy enhanced acceleration and inspiration from evolution's own designs.
