Abstract
This thesis explores cross-lingual Abstract Meaning Representation (AMR) parsing by undertaking an error analysis of Chinese language AMR parsing, using the CAMR parser, with a particular focus on on how accurately the parser handles Chinese verb-complement abilitative constructions. Two strategies for improving modality parsing performance are explored: first, a substitution method which uses regular expressions to replace verb-complement abilitative constructions with auxiliary verb constructions; and second, an adjustment to the parsing model to include features pertaining to siblings in the dependency tree. Substitution did not lead to any noticeable improvement, while the additional features yielded modest improvements to parsing performance.
