Abstract
There is evidence for a commonly held belief in a causal relation between Asperger's Disorder and physical aggression. The purpose of this paper is to review the current literature regarding the relation between them. Asperger's Disorder is defined by the DSM-IV (1994); aggression is defined as physical aggression with the intent to harm others. Sources include literature published in English, after 1994, as well as citations within those sources. This review found many inconsistencies in reports of prevalence rates for the relation between Asperger's Disorder and aggression and inaccurate use of the extant published research. Current literature lacks empirical evidence to support or deny a causal relation between Asperger's Disorder and physical aggression. This review discusses the type of research needed to determine what kind of relation exists and also calls for more careful reference to existing literature.
