Abstract
I have decided to look at leadership transitions in Jewish educational institutions for my Master's thesis. Throughout my time in the Hornstein Program, I have learned about a variety of leadership types. How these leaders can potentially impact an organization is fascinating to me, as over time, they have the power to change an organization's culture, goals, and future. I want to understand how a new leader can influence the educational goals of an organization. What do they prioritize that the past leader did not? What does their background reflect in their leadership style and goals for the organization moving forward? I will answer these questions largely based on my interpretation and the research I have done to learn about cases of leadership transitions in Jewish educational spaces. In the three case studies of leadership transitions that I will describe and analyze, we will see varied types of leadership and different levels of adaptive leadership. How do the organizations and the communities they serve adjust to a new leader? How does the new leader adjust to their role? How will they serve the institution and its educational goals in the future? Leadership transitions can positively or negatively impact an organization, depending on how they are executed. If done well, they can promote future growth and significance of the institution.
