Abstract
Epigenetic phenomena modulate gene expression independent of DNA sequence. Transvection in Drosophila is a well-known epigenetic phenomenon in which chromosome pairing affects gene expression. The mechanisms of chromosome pairing remain largely unknown. To identify genes involved in chromosome pairing, mutations in c(3)G, tef, E(bx), dmt and Top2 were introduced into Drosophila and tested for effects on transvection. I found that mutations of Top2 affect transvection at Ubx, while c(3)G, tef, E(bx), and dmt do not affect transvection. Further experiments are required to clarify the functional mechanisms of the mutations on influencing transvection.
