The author reflects on a possible agenda for diplomatic historians to study the relationships between knowledge and power, building upon the work of many historians (diplomatic and otherwise) who have already explored related topics. He puts forth three agendas for studies, namely "American Knowledge for Global Power," "American Knowledge of Global Power," and "American Knowledge as Global Power."
