Abstract
The criticism published in American Banker on Aug 19, 1993, of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston's study of minority lending patterns is invalid. The study was conducted with careful attention to all the variables influencing the decision to grant or withhold loans from minority applicants. The survey took into consideration the state of the economy in the Boston, MA, area, and all information was rigorously checked before the report was released. The Boston Federal Reserve Bank's conclusion that race is a factor in the loan decision is supported by the evidence presented in the report.
