Abstract
Ion-pairing dissociation constants for sodium naphthalenide dissolved in THF have been determined using esr spectroscopy. Values of Kb obtained agree with those derived from electrical conductivity measure- ments. The discrepancy between Kb from electrical conductivity and earlier esr measurements is inter- preted in terms of potassium impurity. A value of KD obtained for sodium biphenylide in THF is judged to be consistent with the values of Kb from electrical conductivity measurements. However, contrary to expectation, no evidence of ion is found in sodium biphenylide solutions whose esr spectra display sodium hyperfine splittings.
