Abstract
Allara highlights the Joubert Park Project, which was initiated in 1999 when artist/curator Jack Mensink, co-founder of the Dutch-based Artificial shelter Foundation, approached artist Bie Venter to coordinate a cross-cultural venture situated in the Joubert Park Precinct (JPP). In consultation with various cultural and developmental organizations with the park, they developed a two-year program that aims to support revitalization of the cultural life of the JPP. The project culminated an exhibition on October 13, 2001, which consisted of sophisticated artistic responses to Johannesburg, South Africa, local and international artists, working collaboratively, frequently with Park agenc
