Abstract

Bernstein, Leonard Rubenovitz, Herman Braslavsky, Solomon
The author places Leonard Bernstein within the context of the Boston Jewish community in which he was raised. Bernstein first encountered serious music at his family's synagogue in Boston, Congregation Mishkan Tefila. The role of rabbi Herman Rubenovitz and music director/organist Solomon Gregory Braslavsky in Bernstein's musical development is highlighted.
