Abstract
Mead discusses the 63rd Conclave of the Viola da Gamba Society of America was held at Miami University in Oxford OH, a week earlier than usual due to scheduling changes. Despite some travel concerns, the event welcomed 144 participants, 22 faculty, and various instructors. Themed "Dancing with the Stars," dance played a central role, with classes, an English Country Dance evening, and a featured concert blending Renaissance and modern dance music. Highlights included a large ensemble Passamezzo, Charpentier's Suite a quatre parties de Mots, and medieval music performances. The Tindemans Medieval Program provided vielles for students, while beginner viol players used loaner viols coordinated by volunteers. Diverse classes covered technique, repertoire, theory, and even video game music. First-timers were supported by veteran "buddies," and programs like Consort Cooperative and Seasoned Players offered advanced opportunities. Fifteen attended virtually, and community events added rich variety.
