Abstract

Historiography Kli︠u︡chevskiĭ, V. O. (Vasiliĭ Osipovich), 1841-1911 Orthodox Eastern Church -- Russia Church and State -- Russia Slavic and Eurasian Studies Religious History Russian History Russian Studies
One of the most striking-and lamentable-characteristics of Russian historiography has been its unmitigated secularism: only the barest attention is given to the Church and religion, particularly in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Such neglect is all the more salient when compared with the Forschungsstand in European historiography, which has had a rich tradition of wide-ranging, sophisticated scholarship on ecclesiastical and religious history.
