Abstract

Discusses the reasons why a conditional and unconditional program of payment for environmental services produced essentially the same environmental and socioeconomic results. It was hypothesized that unconditional payments would attract more participants and lead to better socioeconomic and environmental impacts. The trial was done in rural Bolivia using a randomized-controlled trial methodology.
