Abstract
The Brandeis University Department of Music presents a free evening with Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble in honor of the 60th birthday of Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Irving Fine Professor of Music Eric Chasalow. Known for creating a vivid “super-musique concrete” that combines traditional instruments with manipulated pre-recorded sounds, this concert will showcase two of Chasalow’s works—On That Swirl of Ending Dust (2011), a sextet with electronics, and Due (Cinta)mani (2002) for piano and electronics. Two other Brandeis music faculty members—Yu-Hui Chang, Co-Artistic Director of Dinosaur Annex, and David Rakowski—have written works as a birthday tribute. These works, A Long Overdue Sequel (Chang) and All That Chas (Rakowski), will be premiered at this concert, which will also include Quartetto No.4 by Chasalow’s mentor, Mario Davidovsky.
