Abstract
The Lexington Symphony will present the world premiere of Yehudi Wyner's "Fragments from Antiquity'' and Brahms' Symphony No. 4.
The Symphony commissioned the Pulitzer Prize-winning Wyner to revist his youthful piece, "Fragments from Antiquity,'' to create a new work for soprano and full orchestra. Originally written for his wife in 1978 through 1981, the work sets music several pieces from different literary traditions including poems by Sappho and Chinese poetry that, according to Wyner, "reflect widespread human feelings related to love and passion.''
Dominique Labelle, national winner of the Metropolitan Opera competition, will perform as soprano soloist in "Fragments from Antiquity.''
The symphony will be directed by Maestro Jonathan McPhee
