Abstract
Erin Gee was approached by Steven Stucky to provide a new work for the 2016 Festival of Contemporary Music at Tanglewood. The resulting new work, "Mouthpiece 29," is the latest in a series of compositions that explore the voice as an instrument without textual reference. It is composed for voice, violin, viola and double bass and was premiered July 23. In the Boston Globe review it was a "highlight" of the series; "a work that gleefully splashes around in the possibilities of vocalism freed from the burdens of signification or language."
