Abstract
The early 17 century saw a rise in music published for voices and consorts of viola da gambas — anthems and madrigals of Byrd and Gibbons will be sung and played, consort music of Byrd, Ferrabosco and Tallis, and polyphony of Taverner and Robert White. Sarah Mead leads the viol
