Abstract
A transcript of an interview with Alan Tieger by Linda Carter and David P. Briand. The interview took place on May 22, 2015 at The Hague, Netherlands, and the transcript, which is represented here, has been reviewed and edited from the original audio version. During the interview, Tieger reminisces on the role of US legal practitioners in early days of Tribunal; drafting first arrest warrant; initiative of Hanne Sophie Greve to finance a world-wide investigation of Dusko Tadić; perspective on media coverage of Tadić trial; role of Carla Del Ponte in shifting investigative paradigm; necessity of lawyer-controlled investigations, and unnerving experience of investigating Prijedor. Tieger also discusses coming together of adversarial and inquisitorial systems at Tribunal; differences in investigations at US Department of Justice and Tribunal; methods of evidence collection; prosecutorial "funnel approach" of presenting evidence to Judges in Tadić; meeting expectations placed on Tribunal, and changes he has observed over many years of working at Tribunal.
