Abstract
A transcript of an interview with Alex Whiting by Leigh Swigart and David P. Briand. The interview took place on December 11, 2014 in Cambridge, MA, USA, and the transcript, which is represented here, has been reviewed and edited from the original audio version. During the interview, Whiting reminisces on early career in criminal law; influential instructors in law school; work between investigators and prosecutors at ICTY; field investigations in Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) case, and instance of witness intimidation. Whiting also discusses languages spoken at ICTY; cognitive dissonance between U.S. support of ICTY and no accountability for torture during War on Terror; common law and civil law systems at ICTY; lawyers from the Balkans and ICTY defendants; comparison of ICTY and Nuremberg; challenges of working through interpreters, and comparison of ICTY and International Criminal Court (ICC).
