Abstract
A transcript of an interview with Antoine Mindua by Leigh Swigart and David P. Briand. The interview took place on May 22, 2015 at The Hague, Netherlands, and the transcript, which is represented here, has been reviewed and edited from the original audio version. During the interview, Mindua reminisces on physically building the ICTR up and putting in place legal material and instruments through his role at the Registry; organizing support services for ICTR Chambers; ensuring the extradition of the accused from surrounding African States, and the need to establish multi-accused cases. Mindua also discusses his trajectory between his Ph.D. in Switzerland to working at the ICTR; reacting to criticisms of the tribunal's lengthy and costly practices and his efforts to expedite and amend these issues; the issue of initially not having simultaneous translation at the ICTR; his subsequent experiences working on ICTY cases against Jadranko Prlić, Dragomir Milošević and Zdravko Tolimir, and his impressions on the impact of contemporary international criminal law on the issues of deterring future atrocities and reparations for victims.
