Abstract
This research paper investigates the portrayal of women in early silent science fiction films through an analysis of three case studies: Filibus (1915, Italy), Aelita (1924, USSR), and Metropolis (1927, Germany). Employing a framework that integrates gender history, science fiction theory, film studies, and futurism, this paper aims to understand how the role of women in early science fiction was shaped by the silent film medium and influenced by the futurist movement, and how the depiction of women oscillated between traditional and progressive overtime.
