Abstract
This paper presents global and regional estimates of the best available indicators of inter-personal violence against children. It introduces a global Violence in Childhood (VIC) Index, which combines indicators on violence against children and intimate partner violence against women using available and imputed data to derive a composite score for countries and regions of the world. The paper highlights the reality that violence in childhood occurs in every country, no matter how rich or poor, and that advancing human development and promoting good governance contribute to reducing levels of childhood violence.
