Abstract
This study was designed to assess how North American Jews interpret the meaning of some questions about Israel that are frequently asked on surveys. Respondents were first asked some basic demographic questions, then four standard survey questions about Israel. For each of the questions about Israel, respondents were also asked to explain in their own words why they answered the questions as they did, plus one or two additional follow-up questions for added depth. The open-ended questions were coded by researchers from the Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University (see methodological notes for details).
