Abstract
The Arab- Israeli conflict is one of the longest and most controversial conflicts in the world. This course will provide students with an opportunity to acquire an in-depth understanding of the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the contrasting narratives on experiences and current issues around the Palestinian question. Although the course will concentrate on the origins and the historical milestones of the conflict, it will also explore the transformative influences of the conflict on the societies of the region. As several new developments are emerging in the region, which are all transforming the dynamics of the relations between Israel and Palestine and other regional Arab states, this course will shed light into the emerging realities in a comprehensive manner.
Aims
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
(1) Learn the origins of the Arab Israeli conflict.
(2) Understand the traditional and emerging actors, multiple processes, and dimensions.
(3) Understand how the conflict has historically transformed Israeli and Palestinian societies.
(4) Analyse current disputes, peace plans and complexities of relations
(5) Analyse the role of the non-state actors in the conflict.
