Abstract
Israel has become a major contributor to the world of Contemporary Dance. It is also a country
with an ancient history and a vibrant and diverse culture. Last, but not least, it is considered a
Holy land by three major religions, Christianity, Islam and Judasim, and is the only Jewish
Democratic State in the world.
Purpose:
This course prepares dancers to be cultural ambassadors, performing artists and educators.
Students chosen to take part will represent Kent State and indeed American Dance, for a trip to
Israel where they will take part in professional dance activities. Taking part in this program will
give students a taste of what it is like to tour as a professional dancer while also learning about
the opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges of international creative collaboration.
Students selected for this program of study must submit an application and also audition
(application attached for reference). This course and the trip to Israel that follows are both tied to
the mission, goals and objectives of Kent State’s East Meets West Organization.
