Abstract
This is a course on the government and politics of modern Israel. It is designed to familiarize students with the clashing ideas and interests within Israeli society and within other domestic populations within Israel, the problems associated with Israel’s lack of a constitution, and the governmental devices within Israel, such as the Knesset, the courts, and the bureaucracies. The course examines the ethnic, economic, and religious divisions within Israel and the role they play in Israel’s elections, government formation, and policy debates.
