Abstract
The objective of the course is to provide a broader overview and insight on the various issues and
aspects of major diasporas of the world so that the student can have a broader understanding on the patterns
and phases of some major global diasporas. The course will also explore various theoretical approaches and
perspectives to understand these diverse diasporas. The paper is divided into two units. The first unit discusses
some of the major diasporic groups of the world highlighting their historical formations and contemporary
relevance. The second unit discusses socio-cultural, political and economic engagement of these diasporas
with their home country, host country as well as among themselves. In all, the paper will provide an
understanding of the broader rubrics of diaspora studies.
