Abstract
This course is designed to teach future Jewish professional leaders how to engage with Israel.
Students will become familiar with select issues in contemporary Israel related to
• History, politics, economy, society, and culture
• Historical roots of contemporary issues; contemporary implications of historical issues
• How these issues play out in world Jewry, particularly the American Jewish community
Students will develop the ability to
• Understand, analyze, and critique information about Israel
• Use the idea of narrative to understand issues from multiple perspectives
• Develop and articulate a personal stance on complex issues
• Lead and participate in conversations about Israel in an informed and nuanced way
As Jewish leaders, students will be able to communicate information about complex issues for audiences that they will work encounter in professional settings. They will learn to
• Translate complex information to clear messages
• Translate academic perspectives to advocacy
• Translate research to policy
