Abstract
State formation in the Middle East after the era of colonialism is wrought with challenges. As border and sectarian conflicts grew, intractable conflicts became difficult to resolve. Therefore, peace-making and peacebuilding assumed significance. This paper attempts to teach students the challenges in arriving towards peace. The process of peace- making in the region has evolved over time. From state sponsored initiatives towards peace making, the region has experienced the growth of civil society and social movements which have a bearing on peace making.
