Abstract
Identity and Remembrance focuses on seven artists from Matanzas who showed their work at the 2019 Havana Biennial as part of the photography collective “Colectivo Arraigo.” These artists' works reflect the value of photography in expressing the relationship between collective memory and cultural identity in Matanzas and the rest of Cuba. Photographers define identity in Matanzas that is constantly in flux, constantly examining the every day, and constantly informed by the past.
