Abstract
FtmOx1 is a non-heme iron α-ketoglutarate dependent endoperoxidase which has been found to abstract a hydrogen from C21 of fumitremorgin B using non-heme iron to form the endoperoxide verruculogen, a potential anticancer agent. The abstraction exhibits preferenceis stereoselective for the pro-(R)-hydrogen of C21, as shown through isotopic labelling of that hydrogen in fumitremorgin B.
