Abstract
Children’s Savings Account (CSA) programs offer a promising strategy to build a college-bound identity and make post-secondary education an achievable goal for more low- and moderate-income children. In addition to their financial value, CSAs are associated with beneficial academic and health effects for children and parents. Since the programs emerged in the early 2000s, the field has grown dramatically in recent years, in large part due to philanthropy and other private funding sources, along with growing public investments. In partnership with Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, AFN presents a snapshot of the scale and makeup of the funding for the CSA field in 2019, as we release the third CSA funding survey that details private & public financial investments, private & public in-kind contributions, and intended uses of funds. Join us to hear key findings from the survey’s authors Rebecca Loya and Madeline Smith-Gibbs, Institute for Economic and Racial Equity, as well as insights from a major CSA program and perspectives from a philanthropic leader.
