Scholarship and Biography

Cynthia A. Tschampl, PhD, is a Senior Research Scientist at The Schneider Institutes for Health Policy and Research, Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. She has 25 years' experience with U.S. and global health, starting with a policy and advocacy background (including work in South Africa, Colombia, and Haiti). Dr. Tschampl’s research involves both quantitative and qualitative research methods with specialization in economic evaluations, such as cost-effectiveness and cost-offsets analyses. Other research interests include prevention and control of infectious diseases (including healthcare financing thereof), responses to substance use disorder, services for people without housing, eating disorders, immigration, and quality measurement. Dr. Tschampl has served on the Massachusetts Medical Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Tuberculosis (MACET) since 2004, received the National TB Controller Association’s 2011 Charles DeGraw TB Award for outstanding service, and was elected to Leadership of Stop TB USA in 2021. She has also served as a member of the Global Partnership for Dengue Control. Among other activities, Dr. Tschampl has lead evaluation projects funded by SAMHSA, DOJ, the World Bank, and The Pew Charitable Trusts.
