Scholarship and Biography
Professor Bayone has had a distinguished career in academia, banking, and as a director of public and privately-held companies in various industries including financial services, cybersecurity, global-scale logistics, and publishing.
In June 2022, Ed retired from Brandeis with emeritus status after a 23-year career. From 2009-18, Ed served as founding chair of the undergraduate Business Program; in the past, he had served as head of the graduate school's Real Estate Specialization. At IBS, the graduate students had voted him "Teacher of the Year" four times.
Since 2022 and from 2013-2018, Ed has served on the advisory board of Brightwood Capital Advisors which manages several funds that provide credit, particularly senior debt, to small and medium sized businesses. In 2023, Ed also served as the firm's Interim Chief Credit Officer.
Since 2023, Ed has served on the board of Appgate, a cybersecurity firm with leading edge zero trust software. Ed joined the board upon the emergence from a prepackaged bankruptcy.
Since 2023 and from 2016-18, Ed has served as Independent Investment Professional for Churchill Asset Management, an investment-specialist affiliate of Nuveen (the asset manager of TIAA) that provides customized financing solutions to middle market private equity firms and their portfolio companies across the capital structure.
Since 2022 and from 2014-17, Ed has served on the board (and in his earlier tenure, chaired the Audit Committee and sat on the Governance Committee) of IAP Worldwide Services, a leading provider of global-scale logistics, facilities management, and advanced professional and technical services.
From 2010-13, Ed served on the Board of Directors of SuperMedia Inc., one of the largest yellow pages directory publishers in the US, until its merger with Dex One to form Dex Media. He chaired the board's Nominating & Corporate Governance Committee and served on the Audit Committee.
From 2006-09, Ed served on the Board, chaired the Risk Committee, and sat on the Audit Committee of Churchill Financial, a commercial middle market finance and asset management company. He then served as Advisor to the CEO and Board until the company was sold in May 2010 to Olympus Partners.
From 1979-2002, Professor Bayone worked at BankBoston and its successor firm, FleetBoston Financial, in various senior capacities including Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer, responsible for overseeing U.S. and international lending.
For 11 years beginning in 2002, Ed served on the Budget & Administration Committee of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, and on its Board of Directors from 2009-12.
Ed received his BA in history from Queens College and masters degrees from the University of Rochester and Columbia University.
