Scholarship and Biography

Elena teaches all levels of Spanish language and culture. Her pedagogical approach relies on research in the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), the recommendations from American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and her years of language teaching experience. She uses a communicative approach in her classes, which are proficiency and task-oriented. She is interested in curriculum design, using clear goals and outcomes and following the principles of backward design. Her classes are content-based and she advocates for complete integration of language and content in her instruction and assessment.
