Scholarship and Biography
Nanako Tamaru is a peace and security consultant and works with a range of non-profit and intergovernmental clients, including UN Women, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, International IDEA, Mercy Corps, and WorldVision. As a licensed attorney and experienced researcher, she focuses primarily on peace process design, constitution drafting, and inclusive approaches to statebuilding. Ms. Tamaru is a trainer/facilitator and has developed training curriculum on policy advocacy, preventing violent extremism, gender equity and social inclusion, women's leadership, and security sector reform.
She also serves as the Executive Director of the Boston Network for International Development, Senior Associate for Peacebuilding Effectiveness at CDA Collaborative Learning, and Security Fellow at the Truman National Security Project.
Previously, Ms. Tamaru was a Senior Program Officer at Inclusive Security where she led research and training programs examining why inclusion matters for peace and how it can be achieved. Ms. Tamaru has also managed peacebuilding programs in Syria and Somalia and has written for UN Women, United Nations Development Programme, Inclusive Security, and Harvard University.
Ms. Tamaru holds a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law and a Master's in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley.
