Scholarship and Biography
My research lies at the intersection of gender and sexuality studies, critical ethnic studies, and transnational American studies. I focus on how contemporary culture reflects/challenges power dynamics formed by ongoing systems of oppression, such as heterosexism, racism, ableism, and settler colonialism. I analyze cultural forms including social media posts, music videos, short fiction, poetry, and film.
In both my pedagogy and research, I demonstrate how feminist and cultural studies methods are vital to understanding the complexities of contemporary society through comparative study across different genres, historical periods, and sociopolitical contexts. I intend to show that queer studies provides an indispensable knowledge formation confronting us with our sociopolitical and ideological values and their effects.
