Scholarship and Biography

Bob Thomas is Founder and Principal of his own user experience research consultancy. Previously, he was Director of User Research at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where he worked for 12 years expanding usability best practices and building out a user research team. His background includes usability research, usability testing, graphic design, and product management. He has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry.

Bob has presented at local, national, and international user experience conferences. He is the former President of UXPA (User Experience Professionals’ Association) Boston. He holds an MS in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University, and an MBA from Suffolk University in Marketing and International Business. In addition, he is a 5th degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art.

In 2025, he was awarded the Rabb School’s 2025 Outstanding Teaching Award.
