Scholarship and Biography

Biochemist and microbiologist studying host–pathogen arms races. Fascinated by the diverse shapes of cellular nanomachines that function in immunity and their extreme conservation across the tree of life. Enjoys freezing big proteins in ice and imaging them with state-of-the-art microscopes. Aiming to better understand humans by studying odd bacteria. In the long run, hoping to discover and engineer new molecular tools to control biology and treat disease.
