Scholarship and Biography

Gina Turrigiano is a Neuroscientist who holds the Joseph Levitan Chair in the Dept. of Biology at Brandeis. She has received numerous awards for her research including a MacArthur foundation "genius" award, McKnight Foundation Technological Innovation and Neurobiology of Disease awards, an NIH director’s pioneer award, and the HFSP Nakasone Award. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. She has served on numerous scientific editorial and scientific advisory boards and is a past President of the Society for Neuroscience. Her scientific interests include understanding how brain circuits can be both stable and flexible during learning and development, and how neural circuits are mis-wired in rodent models of Autism.
