Scholarship and Biography
Ambrus Hernádi is a filmmaker from Budapest, Hungary, with a passion for capturing intimate, personal stories. After earning an MA in Film Studies, he began his career as a Camera Assistant on both American blockbuster productions and art-house cinema. Working alongside esteemed directors and cinematographers such as Roger Deakins, Denis Villeneuve, Dante Spinotti, Tom Gormican, and Paul Feig, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of the technical and creative background of film production.
Ambrus has created documentary shorts for independent productions, online journals, and NGOs, honing his ability to portray authentic human experiences. A graduate of The New School's Documentary Studies program in New York City, his diploma short was screened at DOCNYC. He focuses on stories where self-expression flourishes in rich, genuine atmospheres. Ambrus also teaches practical film courses, including Film Production, Cinematography and Motion Picture Editing, at Brandeis University.
